About us

Welcome to our Restaurant

Here at the George Hintlesham, we believe in home cooked food. The menus are designed around our family, with their individual tastes, so hopefully you will find something for your whole family to enjoy.

With plenty of space and flexibility for groups large and small, the George Hintlesham has become the venue to celebrate at and have parties, in the west Ipswich area.

We are fully accessible, from parking, through sloped access, to a fully accessible toilet facility.

Not as far as you Think!

So often customers arrive 30 minutes early for parties & reservations, saying that they had always thought we were out in the sticks.

At only 5 miles from Ipswich town centre, the George Hintlesham may be in a village surrounded by fields, but it is only a couple of fields out of Ipswich town, on the A1071 (a good main road).

Home made just for You!

Most meals are made from scratch for you, so often ingredients can be added or excluded just for you. If you have any dietary needs we are more than happy to cater to your needs, where possible.

We can accommodate your next catering event.

We love parties here at the George, whether you're having a wedding, anniversary, birthday, christening, wake, a club or business meeting, whatever the occasion.

We are a ‘One Stop Shop’, able to cater for up to 100 sit-down diners and also for buffet functions for up to 175 people.

We have a full entertainments licence and contacts for DJ’s, Karaoke’s, Singer’s and Band’s, so if you’re having a party or function, phone or email us .

Dog Friendly Note;

Dogs are welcome in our outside areas, but not by the children’s play area or in our flower/plant beds, they must be restrained on a lead, at all times whilst on our property (garden and car park) and all waste must be removed from site.

Only Guide Dogs are welcome inside the building.

28 of us attended a Christmas lunch in mid December 2023. To cater for a group of this size, is was obviously essential to preorder and prepay . But this was a straightforward forward process, and a few late bookings and out of the norm requests were taken in their stride by the management. On the day, all 28 of u s had piping hot tasty food, (mainly turkey roast- it was Christmas after all!) which was served efficiently and with a smile. I also felt, and everyone I spoke to within our group agreed, that the meal represented excellent value for money.

We had fish and chips 3 times. Food was hot and of a good portion size. All 3 of us enjoyed the meal. The service was also at a high standard.

Absolutely terrible place. It was 4 of us and the place was pretty much empty and we were greated with the worse mood I've seen on a long time by any waiter. We asked to move two tables together to be a bit more comfy and the lady repeatedly said that we would have enough space in a single table, when a group of 5 were using 3 tables themselves... Anyway, besides this hicup I thought maybe the food is nice as this seems to be the only option to eat nearby but I was soo wrong. Mild and tasteless is an overstatement for the starters. Some of the mains were just fine, but felt like heaven after the starters. Definitely avoid and travel somewhere else to get a decent meal instead.

Group of 4 ate tonight. Staff exceptionally helpful, food excellent, and the value is amazing. Definitely will be back !! Very family friendly pub with a bookcase crammed with books and activities for children, huge garden and plenty of seating inside and out. This place is well worth a visit.

What an amazing find. Had driven past this pub a few times. Such friendly helpful staff The food was amazing, and they catered for gluten free and vegan to. And had a very good menu as well as light lunch bits. Just need to have a gluten and dairy free desert, other then sorbet and I'd be in heaven. The pub has a lovely restaurant and outside seating area, as well as the well set out bar area. The bar was very well stocked and had a very wide range of gins. Unfortunately I was driving so couldn't taste test those. Can't wait to go back for a return visit and to try some more of the menu and hopefully some gin.
